This is beauty…

I want to celebrate the beauty that is not celebrated by the masses, the media, in pop culture or in every day life, the beauty of black women… it’s time we #makespace for ourselves and hopefully the rest of the world will catch up soon. God bless all of the beautiful Queens out there who don’t see themselves represented in ad’s or tv shows, or movies or wherever… this is for all of us, this is beauty…

Keep being yourself, be proud of the way you look, own every part of it because you are perfect exactly as you are and don’t let Instagram tell you any different.

You are valuable…

Sometimes we base our self worth off of what society tells us, or what religion tells us or what random people on social media tell us… but no matter what anyone says, just know that nothing on the outside of you, not looks, nor wealth, gender or any physical or material attributes can add or subtract from your worth. You are more than your body, you are more than what you identify as, you are more than what the world will ever tell you that you can be. The world needs exactly what you have to offer and no one can be you better than you can… you truly are priceless! 💜💜💜

What’s Your Super Power?

My husband has me binge watching “Black Lightning” on Netflix… I usually don’t watch super hero shows, but I figured I’d give it a try, even if it was just so that me and hubby could spend some quality time together. The thing that drew me into the series was the fact that the main character (Black Lightning) is immediately portrayed as a great father figure for his two daughters, which I love because it reminds me of my father who personifies this in every way.

As with any super hero storyline there are your obvious roles and scenarios, fight scenes etc. but what I like about this show is that most of the characters have some sort of super power and they are all still somehow undeniably relatable. They even have a way of making the super powers relatable, like a few of the characters have trouble controlling their powers when they’re mad, because their powers are controlled by their emotions…I love how that concept can translate into real life.

Now I don’t expect to ever have lightning shooting out of my hands, but I do feel like we all have a super power of some sort, be it physical ability (Michael Jordan) mental capacity (Albert Einstein) Spirituality (Monks), we all have some sort of genius that we can tap into… and this genius will allow us to inspire and help others, those closest to us and sometimes people we don’t even know. Because the characters of this show are just like every day people, it makes me feel as if I should be doing a little more to tap into the genius within myself, cultivating my super power so that I can help others in some way.

Maybe my super power is encouraging others. Whenever someone is telling me about a problem they’re having, or if they need to vent out about something, or if they seem really upset or confused or hopeless about something, I try to always pour positivity into them, and reassure them that they won’t always feel this way and that the situation won’t always be the way that it is right now… and sometimes it seems to help them in the moment. It’s not as exciting as being able to shock the bad guys with electrical currents blasting through your palms, but encouraging others is one small way that I can help others. I guess I would call it an ordinary super power or something along those lines, because like John Legend so beautifully and soulfully sings “ We’re just ordinary people, we don’t know which way to go”… The thing that is so appealing about this show for me is that ordinary people are using their super powers to help others, as corny as it sounds, it is pretty inspiring and I am hooked!

Affirmations

This is something I say to myself right now… I haven’t seen most of my dreams come to pass yet, but before dreams come alive you have to see them in your mind first, this is law of attraction 101. And gratitude is one of those things you just can’t go wrong with, the more I count my blessings, the more I am blessed with… and again, I am still waiting for a lot of the things I’ve been praying for, but the object is to keep praying, keep asking keep knocking, keep seeking, put action behind your belief! This is my affirmation for the day, hope you enjoy! 💜

Don’t You Cry

So I know I haven’t done a poem every day, but I’m trying to keep up with the poem a day challenge for April, today’s prompt was to write a future poem, so this poem is dedicated to my future child or children because I pray that I’ll be a great mother when the time comes! Hope you enjoy!
